Abuse leaves us wounded, scared and misunderstood. The world appears upside down rather than right side up. We look at life and ourselves through a false and cracked lens. In our shame we hide the pain. In our inadequacy, insecurity and lost self, we pretend we are someone we are not. Through poetry and pictures in “A Journey From Abuse to Abounding”, layers of the false self are peeled away. We then find our true identity as beloved children created in the image of God. Whole and complete not lacking anything.
God has used Monica’s heart-felt poetry as a spark to help me connect with my own pain and brokenness and then release it to Him. It is so encouraging to know the pathway ultimately leads to abounding through Christ. I found comfort and companionship in dark moments . W.B.

Importance!
I cannot work for it.
I cannot earn it.
It’s not from what I do.
It’s not how I look.
It’s not what I have.
You gave it to me.
I have only to believe it.
I have only to receive it.
We strive –
to be on top
to be noticed
to have it all
to be loved
If only I were…
If only I had…
If only I got…
Then –
I’d be important
I’d be of worth
I’d be of value.
Lies, straight from the pit of hell.
Yet, how often have we fallen for them?
In Christ, We are all of equal worth –
not more
not less.
But we really don’t believe it – at least not yet.
Dissatisfied and Deceived
We keep searching, yet never really finding.
Finally – I realize
You favour me just as much as anyone else –
in any position
in any station of life.
Yes,
I believe
It’s true.
I am important.
Period.
Each chapter starts out with a Scripture.
The Scripture is followed by a title page.
Next come poems, the expressions of my heart. And drawings; I allow my inner child to express her fears and longings and illustrate the truth.
Each chapter then ends with a saying from Monica and a short, simple prayer.
